Claims Specialist - Corporate

Major Role and Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Claims Specialist is responsible for managing workers compensation, general liability, and auto crash claims.  The Claims Specialist will coordinate with superintendents, district offices, insurance adjusters, brokers, nurse case managers, legal resources, and medical providers to effectively manage claims from inception to closure.  The Claims Specialist is responsible for helping Department Managers and Field Superintendents understand the claim process by providing updates and training to meet claims objectives, assisting the Director of Safety with weekly, monthly, and quarterly claims updates, and for administrative support of the safety program and department.

Description of Duties

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Consistently promote Branscome’s safety policy to insure compliance with State and Federal regulations. This includes verbal reminders to the locations, emails, video conferencing and on-site training as needed.
  • Manage claims to limit financial risk and to ensure expenses are in line with standard care guidelines, and claims are progressing efficiently towards closure.
  • Report to and assist the Director of Safety providing monthly, quarterly, and annual safety and claims performance tracking against established goals. Prepare and maintain the measurements and data for the safety key business indicators.  These measurements are due to the Director of Safety a minimum of one week prior to the end of each Branscome fiscal quarter summarizing current fiscal quarter safety performance and other assigned measurement data.
  • Monitor all injuries related to work accidents and driving accidents with the goal of promoting prevention of injuries, reducing frequency of injuries & facilitating efficient handling of claims.
  • Maintain quarterly safety bonus eligibility records for field personnel.
  • Prepare and schedule periodic video-conference updates with insurers, field management and safety committees to provide claims status updates and summaries to maintain awareness and promote location ownership of claims.
  • Work with accounting personnel to verify that claim costs are accurately allocated.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Branscome insurance brokers, insurance agents/adjusters, and medical providers to facilitate aggressive claims management.
  • Maintain the internal electronic claims database, training database, and portions of the  safety/claims/environmental tabs in support of the Branscome EHS Risk management programs.
  • Report weekly on the state of claims and other relevant areas of responsibility and will provide a summary via email to the Safety Manager each Friday by noon.
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.


Two year degree or equivalent experience specific to WC, GL, Auto claims handling. Experience with 3rd party liability damage claims.   Specialized experience in WC, Auto, and GL strongly preferred.  Bilingual (Spanish) a plus but not required.

Work Experience

Minimum of 5 years of insurance claims experience.

  • Should be able to clearly communicate a summary version of an open claim to relay the date of loss, district of origin, summary of the event, and next step in the claim handling process.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from management in group settings.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and to promote the zero injury safety culture.
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
